Nyman Turkish Associate Attorney Mary Scott Celebrates 500th Favorable Decision
Nyman Turkish Associate Attorney Mary Scott recently celebrated a major milestone—her 500th favorable decision—after three years with our firm.
Mary graduated summa cum laude from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) with a B.A. in Health Administration & Policy and spent six years at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services before pursuing law.
At the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law, she distinguished herself as Executive Articles Editor for the Maryland Law Review, held leadership roles in two student organizations, and served as a student attorney in the Gender Violence Clinic. She graduated magna cum laude and was inducted into the prestigious Order of the Coif.
We are proud to have Mary on our team and celebrate this outstanding achievement.
Hear more about this milestone from Mary herself below.
It has been three years since my very first hearing as an attorney in October 2022. In October 2025, I’m thrilled that I received my 500th favorable decision for a client I represented.
I’ve had the privilege to be part of 500 individual’s stories and lives and, in some small way, influenced them for the better. It’s what I always wished for and dreamed about when I started my journey to become an attorney. To reflect on this milestone and recognize that this dream has been realized is incredibly uplifting and motivating.
But on the flipside of any uplifting moment are the moments of heaviness, pain, loss, and fear. My clients are in a vulnerable place – they haven’t worked for more than a year and they are suffering with their health. Our conversations involve many tears shed, dashed hopes and dreams shared, and worries about the future for themselves and their families. Sometimes I am able to help and sometimes I am not. That has been a difficult but important lesson to learn. The law, and “justice,” are not perfect – and even when we get the outcome we hope for, it will not automatically make everything better. Acknowledging this truth is an important part of working with vulnerable populations – but we should continue to strive and hope for more perfection from our legal system. We should keep asking for more rather than settling for what we are given. Our clients deserve that.
I am indebted to my colleagues at Nyman Turkish for every one of the 500 wins. Everything that I learned, every question that was answered, every brief that was reviewed, every post-hearing debrief session where we discussed lessons learned and what to do next time, is a part of each individual success. I could not, and would not, be the lawyer I am without the support of our amazing team.
Here’s to the next 500, and many more after that.
